Odd Andersen – Earthquake

Earthquake - 2004

A woman is engulfed in dust as she narrowly escapes a falling wall from a destroyed house as rescue workers dig for corpses in the earthquake stricken Iranian city of Bam, 01 January 2004. As many as 50 000 is feared dead according to government figures.

Odd Andersen (b. 1969, Norway) started his career at Norwegian daily, Dagbladet in Oslo before joining Agence France-Presse as a photographer. Between 2006-2010 was Associated Press Regional Photo Editor for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Currently based in Berlin as a photographer for Agence France-Presse. Has previously been based in Sarajevo, Johannesburg, London, NY and Amman, covering major news stories as the fall of the Berlin wall, The Gulf wars in 1991 and 2003 as well as other Middle Eastern and African and European conflicts.

Odd has won several prizes in international and domestic photo competitions including 1st prize in category conflict in the POYi 2003.

Personal connection to Anton: Odd worked with Anton in Johannesburg 1996-2004 and also met up with him in Libya on the frontline between Ajdabiya and Brega on the morning he went missing.
