Pakistani jihadis are held in a makeshift prison after being captured for illegally entering Afghanistan. The Afghan authorities later released them on a Ramadan amnesty.
Kate Brooks (b. 1977, USA) is an American photojournalist who began covering the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan immediately after 9/11. Her work focuses on political turmoil and the impact of conflict on civilian populations. Her photographs have appeared in TIME, Newsweek, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Smithsonian to name a few and have been exhibited in group and solo shows in the U.S., Europe and the U.A.E.
In September 2011 she published her fist book In the Light of Darkness, Schilt Publishing, 2011, which documents her journey from 9/11 to the beginning of the Arab Spring in both pictures and words. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including POYI, American Photography, Communication Arts, PDN and Lucie Awards.
