Smoking Soldier After IED - 2009
US Army Sgt 1st Class Chet Millard lays on a stretcher awaiting medical evacuation helicopters after he was injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack on the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle (MRAP) he was traveling in, in the Tangi Valley, Wardak Province, Afghanistan, on September 8, 2009. Three US soldiers were injured in the IED attack.

Adam Ferguson (b. 1978, Australia) grew up in New South Wales, Australia. He completed a Bachelor of Photography at Australia's Griffith University in 2004. He moved to Paris to intern with VII Photo Agency in 2006.
Based in New Delhi from 2007 to 2011, Adam documented social tensions within the world’s largest democracy and Pakistan as it grappled with poverty and political insecurity. During his time based in South Asia he embarked on his most in-depth photographic project; an exploration into the corners of the US-led military occupation of Afghanistan.
Adam's photographs have been published by Time Magazine, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, Stern, The Financial Times Magazine, The Sydney Morning Herald, UNICEF and Human Rights Watch, among others.
Adam became a member of VII Photo Agency in 2011.
